Anyone in a risk assessed role, which includes almost everyone doing hands on support work, has to hold a clear NDIS Worker Screening Check. In Vic the check is run by NDIS Worker Screening Unit, and the provider has to verify it before the worker starts and keep checking that it stays clear.
It is a national clearance. A worker screened in Vic can work anywhere in Australia, and a worker screened interstate can work here, so a provider covering a border area does not need two checks.
A clearance lasts five years, but it is monitored continuously rather than only at renewal. If something changes that affects the worker's suitability, the screening unit can suspend or revoke it, and the provider has to act on that.
You are entitled to ask a provider whether the person coming to your home has been screened. A provider that cannot answer that question straight away is not one to use.

Does the provider have to be registered with the NDIS?
We only work with providers registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. Registration is required for NDIA managed plans, and plenty of self managed and plan managed participants prefer it anyway.
