Support Workers forDisabilities

Getting out and about

Community access is support to do the things outside the house: appointments, classes, work, sport, seeing people, or just getting out. Under the NDIS it is funded from core supports, and the 2026-27 weekday daytime price limit is $73.58 an hour.

For a lot of people this is the support that makes the week feel like a life rather than a schedule.

What it looks like

  • Getting to and from appointments
  • Going along to a class, a group or a gym
  • Shopping, the library, the pub, the football
  • Support at work or study, where it is not covered elsewhere
  • Seeing friends and family
  • Building the confidence to do some of it alone

One to one, or in a group

Both are funded, and they cost differently.

Group supports cost less per person per hour because the worker is shared, and for some people the group is the point. One to one costs more and suits anyone who needs full attention or is working on something specific.

A provider should be able to explain which one they are quoting for and what it means for the hours in the plan.

Questions people ask

Who pays for the activity itself?

You do. The plan pays for the support worker's time, not the cinema ticket, the coffee or the gym membership.

What about the worker's ticket or entry?

Providers differ and it should be in the service agreement. Ask before you book anything expensive.

Can support happen in the evening or at weekends?

Yes, and it is worth knowing it costs more from the same plan. Saturday is $103.54 an hour and Sunday $133.50 against $73.58 on a weekday.
