Help around the house
This is support with the running of a household: meals, laundry, cleaning, shopping and the admin that piles up. Under the NDIS it sits in core supports, usually billed as assistance with daily life, and the 2026-27 weekday daytime price limit is $73.58 an hour.
It is often the support that makes the difference between managing and not, and it is frequently the first thing people ask for.
What it covers
- Preparing meals, or cooking together
- Laundry, washing and changing bedding
- Cleaning and tidying the living space
- Shopping, with the person or on their behalf
- Help with bills, post and household admin
- Keeping the home safe to move around in
Doing with, not doing for
The better providers treat this as building capability rather than a cleaning service.
If the goal in the plan is to live more independently, the support should be working towards that: cooking alongside someone so they learn the meal, rather than handing them a plate.
Say which way you want it. Some people want the job done and their time back, and that is a perfectly good answer too.

Is this the same as a cleaner?
No. A cleaner cleans a house. A support worker supports a person, which may include cleaning, and is funded because of disability related need rather than the housework itself.
Can we use it for gardening or home maintenance?
Sometimes, where it is disability related and in the plan. It is worth checking with your plan manager or support coordinator first.
Can the worker drive us to the shops?
Often yes. Transport can be part of the support, and how the running costs are handled should be agreed up front.
